The Office of the Minister is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to fill the position of Deputy Director: Parliamentary and Cabinet Support Officer. This is a senior-level role that requires a deep understanding of the political landscape, strong communication skills, and a proven track record in managing complex parliamentary and executive processes.

DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONAL SERVICES REQUIREMENTS :
The successful candidate must possess an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification at NQF level 7, with at least three (3) years’ experience at the Assistant Director/Middle management level. They must be computer literate and hold a valid Drivers’ License. Additionally, the ideal candidate should demonstrate the following competencies and attributes: DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONAL SERVICES

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of the functional areas covered by the executive authority’s portfolio
  • Proven management competencies, including the ability to coordinate activities, delegate tasks, and oversee the execution of projects
  • Working knowledge of the political and parliamentary processes in South Africa, including an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the Portfolio and Standing Committees
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with various stakeholders and present complex information in a clear and concise manner
DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONAL SERVICES

DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONAL SERVICES DUTIES :
The primary responsibilities of the Deputy Director: Parliamentary and Cabinet Support Officer include:

  1. Monitoring events in Parliament/the legislature to identify matters that have a bearing on the portfolio of the Minister. This involves closely following the proceedings of the legislature and analyzing the potential impact on the Minister’s areas of responsibility.
  2. Liaising with structures such as the Portfolio and Standing Committees on matters that have a bearing on the portfolio of the Minister, and briefing the department on the decisions taken. This requires maintaining strong working relationships with these committees and ensuring timely and accurate communication of relevant information.
  3. Monitoring events in Cabinet/Executive Council to identify matters that have a bearing on the portfolio of the Minister. This includes reviewing documents such as the minutes of Cabinet and Cluster Committees, and closely observing the discussions and decisions made by the executive structures that may impact the Minister’s portfolio.
  4. Rendering an efficient and effective parliamentary service by facilitating timely and appropriate responses to the parliamentary questions in the format prescribed by Parliament/the legislature. Additionally, the officer must ensure departmental representation in parliamentary events, ensuring the Minister’s interests are effectively represented.

DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONAL SERVICES

DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONAL SERVICES: This is a critical role that requires a skilled professional who can navigate the complex political and parliamentary landscape, maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, and provide the Minister with the necessary support to effectively carry out their duties.

Town offices play a crucial role in the functioning of Parliamentary sessions, where applicable. The incumbent in this position will be responsible for managing and overseeing the packing, dispatching, and unpacking of all official documents and equipment between the Pretoria and Cape Town offices. This is a critical task to ensure the seamless flow of information and resources required for the efficient running of Parliamentary proceedings.

DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONAL SERVICES: To fulfill this role effectively, the successful candidate will be required to meticulously study and comprehend the relevant Public Service and departmental prescripts/policies, as well as any other pertinent documents. This in-depth understanding will enable the individual to ensure that the application of these guidelines and regulations is properly implemented and adhered to.

Furthermore, the position entails remaining abreast of the latest procedures and processes applicable to the Minister, encompassing both administrative and operational aspects. This will require the incumbent to maintain a keen awareness of the evolving dynamics and requirements within the ministerial office.

DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONAL SERVICES: In addition to the responsibilities mentioned above, the role also involves the management of human resources, finance, and assets. This includes overseeing staffing matters, budget allocation and utilization, as well as the effective stewardship of the physical resources required for the smooth functioning of the Parliamentary operations.

Lastly, the incumbent will be responsible for the management of performance information, ensuring that appropriate metrics and reporting mechanisms are in place to monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of the town office’s operations.
