About the Learnership

The Cementation Africa H&SE Learnership is designed to provide learners with a comprehensive understanding of health, safety, and environmental practices applicable in any workplace. It equips participants with the knowledge to identify risks, implement safety measures, and promote a culture of health and safety.

During the six-month programme, learners will gain practical insights that enhance their employability and create opportunities for further development within the HSE field. The qualification also allows for recognition and mobility, opening pathways to specialised careers in health, safety, and environmental management.


Key Responsibilities and Skills

Learners who successfully complete the programme will be able to:

  • Understand and implement basic HSE concepts and practices
  • Identify and assess workplace safety, health, and environmental risks

  • Take responsibility for personal safety and contribute to a safety-conscious workplace culture

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 10 or 11 (submit pass/promote report card with official school stamp)
  • Grade 12 is advantageous
  • Must be unemployed
  • South African citizen
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Medically fit to work in an underground mining environment
  • Must not have a criminal record
  • Female candidates must not be pregnant
  • Must be able to travel at own cost to and from the Training Academy in Carletonville every second week
  • Must not be registered for any other learnership programme
  • Must comply with Cementation Africa’s zero-tolerance policy on alcohol and illegal substances (testing during onboarding and randomly during the programme)

Learnership Duration

The programme runs for six months, during which learners will receive structured training and hands-on experience in HSE operations within the mining environment.
