About the EPWP Environmental Monitor Programme
This programme is part of SANParks’ Biodiversity Social Projects and aims to provide employment while promoting environmental conservation. Participants will gain valuable hands-on experience in ecological monitoring, restoration work, and environmental awareness programmes.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be required to:
- Manage in-field administration including timesheets, health and safety checklists, logbooks, and reports.
- Assist with resource management data collection and monitoring.
- Handle conflict resolution and provide support and motivation to contractors.
- Participate in fire management operations.
- Conduct fence integrity monitoring, perform basic maintenance, and clear vegetation around camps.
- Carry out ecological monitoring, alien species clearing, and restoration activities.
- Support waste management reporting and related programmes.
- Participate in environmental awareness and community outreach programmes.
- Perform ad-hoc conservation duties when required.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following:
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
- Keen interest in working within nature conservation.
- Good communication skills.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and after-hours.
- Physically fit and able to perform fieldwork.
- Medical fitness clearance from a registered practitioner (successful candidates only).
- Knowledge of basic Health and Safety principles.
- No criminal record (verification by SAPS will be conducted).
- Preference will be given to applicants aged 18–35 years.
Advantageous Skills
- Computer literacy.
- Basic firefighting training.
